Vietnamese people are familiar with the saying “A piece of betel is the beginning of a conversation”. In the life of the people, betel and areca have entered legends and poems, closely and intimately associated with rural life. That rural beauty has been passed down for generations and is still preserved in Vi Thuy betel village.

Vi Thuy betel village has nearly 40 hectares of betel, with nearly 200 gardens, this place is called the "Kingdom of betel leaves". Only in this freshwater area of Vi Thuy along the Hau River can betel be grown with a rich flavor, delicious taste, and "red lips and red mouth". Coming here, everyone is impressed by the betel gardens with hundreds, thousands of straight betel stems, lush green leaves with a hint of golden color, looking very beautiful.

Betel of Vi Thuy is yellow betel, with a spicy flavor that many people like. After 3-4 months of planting, the betel vine will start to produce leaves, and it is harvested every half month. To get a betel leaf (40 leaves), the grower must go through many stages: buying cuttings, choosing trees to make poles, digging ditches, planting roots, watering, picking betel leaves and then arranging them into a betel leaf called a betel row, which means arranging the betel leaves into dozens, then hundreds, then thousands before delivering them to traders.

Nowadays, very few people chew betel, so the image of areca trees and betel vines has gradually faded. However, in Vi Thuy betel village, there are still betel gardens with golden, green leaves. If you have the opportunity to visit the betel growing village, you will enjoy a bit of the rustic soul that still remains here.
