In the early 20th century, to serve the colonial exploitation, the French colonialists dug canals, gradually forming seven canals converging like a navel between the ends of the cape. Looking down from above, you can see the shape of the 7 branches, spreading out like stars including: - Cai Con Canal: The French used a dredge in 1890. This is a main and widest canal axis, about 15 kilometers long, like the "main" canal bringing water from the Hau River to the reed fields (as well as draining water during the rainy season), the locals also call it "Cai River". - Bung Tau Canal: Connecting from the reed fields through Lung Ngoc Hoang to Soc Trang and Rach Gia. In the first phase, connecting to Phuoc Long district, forming the Nga Nam canal cluster. Later in 1914, it was dug further through Bac Lieu to Ca Mau market, so it is also called Quan Lo Phung Hiep - Ca Mau canal. - Lai Hieu Canal: 25 kilometers long, from Nga Bay market to the border of Duc River (Cai Lon - Long My), currently the direction to Cay Duong town, Phung Hiep district. Lai Hieu Canal is also called Bassac Long My Canal ... View more

In the early 20th century, to serve the colonial exploitation, the French colonialists dug canals, gradually forming seven canals converging like a navel between the ends of the cape. Looking down from above, you can see the shape of the 7 branches, spreading out like stars including:

- Cai Con Canal: The French used a dredge in 1890.

Lai Hieu Canal is also called Bassac Long My Canal because it connects to Long Binh commune, meets Cai Lon River in Long My area (Rach Gia).

- Mang Ca Canal: On the eastern side of the land, about 1 kilometer from the center of Nga Bay market. Later, the French continued to dig a canal connecting to Ke Sach - Soc Trang called Mang Ca Canal, with a length of about 15 kilometers. Because the canal is located next to the fish gill of Phung Hiep Quay Bridge, people often call it Mang Ca Canal.

- Muong Lo Canal: dug from 1901 to 1905, the French dug a canal from Phung Hiep to Soc Trang with a length of about 30 kilometers, about 30 meters wide. When building National Highway 1A (now Hung Vuong Street); The French dug a canal along it to get soil to make a foundation on the road, and to roll the stones, so it was called Muong Lo canal.

- Xeo Vong canal: was dug from 1908 to 1912 towards Can Tho by expanding a small canal called Xeo Vong, the length of this canal is about 12 kilometers. Because the canal bank has many large tung dong trees, the people named the canal Xeo Vong.

- Xeo Mon canal: After digging Xeo Vong canal, the French continued to dig Xeo Mon canal to bring water deep into the inner fields, going straight to La Bach intersection (Hoa My commune). It is called Xeo Mon because there is a waterway with many taro bushes, this canal is about 7 kilometers long.
